Bilstein President & CEO Receives German-American Friendship AwardDecember 15, 2015
The EACC congratulates Fabian Schmahl, President & CEO of EACC member company ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America, on recently receiving the German-American Friendship Award from Deputy Consul General Mario Soos on behalf of Ambassador Peter Wittig. The award, which was established by the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. in 1981 and honors people who have rendered outstanding services to German-American relations, was presented in an intimate ceremony at the Consulate General in Chicago earlier this month.
Mr. Schmahl was instrumental in bringing a segment of the Berlin Wall to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, where it is on permanent display. The EACC was supportive of those efforts led by then Honorary Consul of Germany Dr. Richard Schade.
Moreover, Mr. Schmahl continues to be an engaged business leader in the Greater Cincinnati region, working with organizations such as the Munich Sister City Association, as well as the EACC. In fact, ThyssenKrupp Bilstein has hosted executive roundtables and events welcoming EACC members.
Since 2008, Mr. Schmahl has served as President & CEO of ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America. Recently, the company has been expanding, making its third expansion announcement since 2011 in the summer of 2014 (also its largest expansion announcement). As of mid-October 2015, the first of two phases of this $26 million expansion had been completed.
